Nursery Progress

...we interrupt the little bits of nonsense which have been monopolizing this artsy-crafty blog to bring you a little project in it's completed state.

I ordered letters from the greatest letter designer ever. I chose the font, and they designed them to match. This is my second set, the first being these for Kenzie Doodles room.


The letters are blue and the sides are green. I layered some paper strips along the bottoms to funky them up a bit.

Rylan's room started out as just a gender neutral yellow, decorated in bird themes. Then the little critter was born and turned out to be of the boy variety - and the husband proclaimed that we must "testosterone up" the room a bit. So...we're adding in some blue's and more green, and some soccer stuff. It's still not done, but we're making some steady progress now. You might remember these???



The boxes now have a presence in the room, but are doorless. My nemesis project continues to pain me as we had to send the doors back for a re-cut after they didn't fit. Opening...is important, after all. Perhaps I added too many damn layers of paint?? Anyway, we are in hopes they'll be returned ready to hang in the next few days or so.

And, once they are.. we'll settle them in their positions, formally hang the artwork, and hope it meets the testosterone level my husband felt it deserved.

Perhaps I'll even offer a little nursery tour when we realize the accomplishment.

Reverse Nesting

The thing about not learning the sex of your baby until the birth (for me anyway) is that I feel no stress about getting the bedroom done. The stress comes for me when...the baby is here, I can see the personality & they are about to get themselves evicted from my bedroom if they can't stop waking me up every two hours at night.

he.he. Just kidding. Well, kind of..



I wish I still had Kenzie's enthusiasm for this whole box painting thing. I had a "system" built by a friend for Rylan's room. It's a bunch of boxes that can be reassembled in various formations... inspired from these but totally our own design. You can see just a few of them behind Kenzie in this photo.

The friend I commissioned the piece from did an amazing job and charged a smidge of what I thought he would for it. The problem?? Well, actually there are several:
1. I have to paint the thing. (2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint, with two accent colors. Sealed with a poly-acrylic finish. Inside & out).
2. And, I've got perfectionistic obsessive compulsive tendencies.
3. And, I've also got two foul nappers who must be conspiring to NEVER sleep at the same time. I just get my paints out, make a mess and someone is waking up.

Rylan is going to be 19 before I get this thing painted. Which means he could still be sleeping in my room for as many years -as- I insist on having his room finalized before he finally moves in there.

Crazy. I know.
In hindsight, perhaps I should have made the husband do it while I was still pregnant. :)

Craft Blog on Maternity Leave

The problem with focusing this blog on "creating" ..is that I feel like there isn't anything to blog about when I've so little time to be creative.

Well, I made this little cute little critter, so I think that counts as bloggable material?



And, perhaps you'll remember his little shirt? It was our handmade gift made by the big sister. As you can imagine, she's terribly proud when he wears it. She insists he wears it a lot.



Rylan is now a month old. It seems like I was JUST whining about still being pregnant, and now a month of his life has FLOWN BY! Well, except for the nights - that is. The nights seem like they will never end sometimes. (little guy is a zen baby in the daylight, but a grunting, farting, can't-lay-flat-on-his-back, gas machine at night.) Imagine that.



As you can tell, I've been on a bit of a blog detox lately. It's not only difficult typing with a baby dangling from you...but I've found it supremely difficult to entertain the Kenzie gal and sync up any "breaks" with blog reading and writing. Many apologies for my lack of commenting too! It seems that when I do find time to read, I'm holding a baby and I'm not stellar at the one-handed typing. Many thanks to those of you who've checked in on our status. Those inquiries have brought me many smiles.



Amazingly, I've noticed a positive outcome from less time spent online. Although I miss it... (& I don't know how many times I've considered giving up sleeping all together and coming down to peruse blogs when the babe is keeping me up!) But, I've truly noticed that my mind feels less scattered. I also find that I'm feeling more inspired in daily life to be active and available - rather than just reading about how everyone else is! The past month has just been a really nice time for my little family.



Look at him... can you blame me for being distracted?

He's beautiful, but having some breathing troubles (which are apparently, common following C-sections). He's in the nursery for a mandatory "observation" and we're trying to be patient for him to come back. Without freaking out.

Kenzie is so, so proud. We all are.
